Pillowcase Pattern

These instructions will make one stanard size pillowcase approximately 32"x20".
|
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:
3/4 yard for body of pillowcase
1/3 yard for end of pillowcase
1/8 yard for accent strip

NOTE:
When choosing fabric for body of pillowcase be aware the selvedge edge is the long edge of the finished pillowcase. If you are considering directional fabric and would like the design to run horizontal then purchase 1 1/4 yard of fabric for the body. You will cut 41" from the length of the fabric.

CUTTING:
PLEASE READ THROUGH THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE CUTTING

| 3/4 yard for body of pillowcase
|
cut one piece 27" x 41"
|
| 1/3 yard for end of pillowcase
|
cut one piece 10"x41"
|
| 1/8 yard for accent strip
|
cut one piece 3"x41"
|
|
- Press the 3"x41" accent strip in half lengthwise (strip is now 1 1/2" x 41")
- Press the 10"x41" end piece in half lengthwise (strip is now 5" x 41")
- Use 1/2" seams. Sew folded accent strip to the right side of 41" length of pillowcase. Sew the end piece of fabric (unfolded) along the same edge over the accent piece on the same edge.
- Press the accent piece towards the pillowcase body and the end piece away from the body. Both inside seams of accent and end pieces should be pressed towards the opening of the pillowcase.
- Fold the pillowcase right sides together along the length of the pillowcase keeping the end piece open (unfolded). Sew the bottom and the length using a 1/2" seam. Use a zigzag stitch or serger stitch to finish the edges.
- Turn the pillowcase right side out.
- Turn the bottom strip at the 5" fold to the inside of the pillowcase. Turn the raw edge under 1/2" and pin in place. Pay special attention when pinning as to not miss the fold when sewing fromt he front. Finish the pillowcase with a decorative top-stitch, stitch-in-the-ditch or hand sew using a slip stitch.
